Born in Zepperen, amidst the unique and beautiful landscape of Haspengouw, a specific region in our province that is also referred to as the Tuscany of Flanders. Probably that explains why that same environment is a primary source of my inspiration.
As a self-taught painter I love to use materials that simply by themselves tell their own stories: old paper, forgotten pieces of fabrics, dried plants, collected seeds from my garden, sand,…
The fleeting nature of life and the mysterious ways in which memories work are fascinating to me and they influence my artistic process.
So it is obvious that in my art work many memories find a home to linger around forever…
I also like to experiment with gold leaf, playful pigments and powders with a golden touch; anything that alludes to various kinds of lights, I like to think that instead of silver linings I would go for golden ones. By using and mixing these materials I create paintings that have the ability to adapt to the light: they appear in different ways depending on how they are lit out or they change due to the weather conditions or just how the day light strikes in on a particular moment.
My art is full of hidden messages and several layers, the latter even literally and figuratively speaking: those are my unwritten stories. Because of the multiplicity of layers in most of my paintings, I like to see them as an invitation to start a quest for messages, meanings and personal interpretations.
I like painting. I love painting.
It offers me the possibility to loose myself and to regain myself again in a sort of coming home, a sort of returning to your basic self.
Welcome in the wonderful world and works of MB.
